ECONOMIC ALLIANCE WINS TOP NATIONAL STEWARDSHIP AWARD

The Economic Alliance of the San Fernando Valley was named by the national Alliance for Regional Stewardship (ARS) in May 2006 as winner of its 2006 cash award of $10,000 for “organizing multi-sector and multijurisdictional initiatives to improve the region it serves.”  The Economic Alliance is one of only three metropolitan communities to share the prestigious honor. Pittsburgh, PA, and Puget Sound (Seattle), WA were also named.
ARS is an international network of 200 geographic regions in 41 states and the District of Columbia that was established in 2000, and is headquartered in Philadelphia.

“Our financial awards provide money for the winners to guide other regions about how to organize, implement our basic principles for success, and achieve results,” says David Thornburgh, ARS’s new chief executive officer. “But they also recognize individual regional efforts and confirm our underlying philosophy that metropolitan and rural communities can meet regional challenges without the political pitfalls of regional government.”

The ARS national awards are funded by the Morgan Family Foundation, Los Altos, CA, and given this year to regions for their capacity to work effectively on the four ARS principles of regional stewardship – innovative economy, livable community, social inclusion, and collaborative governance.
